2.15 The Rise and Fall

All institutions rise and fall. From the Roman Empire to the pre Reformation Church to the current State, there are patterns of this that repeat themselves clearly. For the future, we can only speculate but unless these historical patterns break, we can get a rough idea of how things will develop on a macro level. This episode looks at what happened when Rome and the Church fell and what would likely happen if the nation state system lost it's prominence in a similar fashion. Who handles law, defense, arbitration, religion, etc. before and after these power shifts?
